Question

I’m so happy to feature you in this special issue celebrating Soul Music. You have been in the industry for a minute. What is your key to remaining relevant?

Answer

For me honestly just being myself. God has given me so many interests and gifts. I have made a conscious effort to use those gifts and do what I love and to work with those I love. It’s important to constantly reinvent yourself. In my opinion it’s a travesty not to use all the gifts God has blessed you with.  I use a lot of talents now that I didn’t use in my youth. My fans, well I don’t like to call them that. Many of my supporters many have stayed true to me since the Arrested Development days. These days I do consulting, artist development, teaching and many other things including managing my daughter who models. I believe staying true to yourself is the key to staying relevant

Question

Tell us about your artist development platform.

Answer

I take it all the way back to my mom Ms. Billie Gaither. She started me dancing when I was 2 years old. She was one of the first Black’s to own a dance studio way back in the 60’s. My training from her is why I’m doing what I’m doing today. I just believe in giving back.

Artist development is my ministry. It’s more than telling them where to stand on stage. I get into the inside to find out what makes them tick. In this business if you don’t handle the inside it can destroy you. It’s one of the toughest industries to be in. I asked my artists their vices to get to know who they are. Who you are will come out eventually. Let’s deal with those things now so when you hit the stage you can bring your best self.

I evaluate each artist individually whether they are seasoned or a new artist.  I do media training, health and nutrition. I teach them how to work the room. I do vocal, chorographic performance, stamina all they stuff they will need in this business.

Question

You are an inspiration to women that are not a size two. What are some of your fitness tips?

Answer

For me I’m really big on going to the chiropractor, going to spa and getting facials and taking herbs. I love natural products. Making sure I eat right. I dance a whole lot I’m always dancing from ballet to the latest dances. I also go to gym and do some weightlifting. I pray a lot, journal and read books. Take time for meditation every morning I try to get it in.

 Question

What’s coming up with for you in 2019?

Answer

I have a single coming out called King. I released it last year, but what I did is a remix of the song. It has a whole new vibe. It should be out around Father’s Day. The video is also coming. I have two amazing artists I work with that have upcoming projects. I also as I mentioned manage my daughter who is 16. She has her own fashion line coming out. I’m working on some TV projects happening in Africa.  Keep a look out!
